My word of the year is mindful. In 2018 my goal is to employ more mindfulness in my reading habits. I’d like to read more books and also let go of a novel or a nonfiction read if it isn’t holding my interest. I am making an effort to revisit classics, read more novels and move outside of my comfort zone with book picks I wouldn’t necessarily choose. Reading not only helps me learn about the world, but it has a direct impact on my writing. Here is what is on my bookshelf:
Who Will Run the Frog Hospital by Lorrie Moore
Tell Me More by Kelly Corrigan
We Are Never Meeting in Real Life by Samantha Irby
The Child Finder by Rene Denfeld
300 Arguments by Sara Manguso

Welcome! I am a lawyer turned freelance writer, essayist, and editor. On staff at Literary Mama and the co-founder and co-editor of the literary journal, The Sunlight Press, my essays and reported work have appeared in The Washington Post, The Lily, Saveur, Civil Eats, Brain, Child, ESPN and elsewhere. I am currently at work on a memoir on grief and culture and how it provides perspective on life’s ordinary graces. I invite you to appreciate the ordinary with me. I hope my daily practice of seeing the magic in the mundane helps you celebrate and find more of these moments in your life too.
I’m reading The Music Shop by Rachel Joyce. It’s taking me a surprisingly long time, but I do like it.
I’m reading a new Jane Green book. Her last one didn’t do it for me but this one is working.
