I do this meme from time to time and I thought it might be fun to revisit it again. This is what is happening in my world, right now:
What I Am Listening To: I am listening to Alessia Cara nonstop when I am at home. I’ve slipped the new Rihanna album in my CD player – one of my favorite simple pleasures is listening to music in my car with the windows rolled down. You might catch me singing out loud, swaying my head and feeling the music as I pause at a traffic light. On auto repeat consistently this month is, James Bay’s “Let It Go,” and Andra Day’s, “Rise Up.”
What I Am Watching: My husband and I finished watching House of Cards a few weeks ago. It didn’t captivate us as much as other seasons. I am still watching Scandal and of course, we always reserve weekend nights for catching movies. The last two movies we’ve seen are Spotlight and Creed. Sports are mainstay in our house. We loved the buzzer-beater Villanova finish on Monday.
What I Am Reading: I have a mounting pile of books on my office floor, nightstand and I always keep a few in my car, in case of unexpected wait times. I am reading The Orphan Master’s Son by Adam Johnson, Becoming Wise: An Inquiry into the Mystery and Art of Living by Krista Tippett, Catastrophic Happiness: Finding Joy in Childhood’s Messy Years by Catherine Newman, The Wander Society by Keri Smith and This Side of Providence by Rachel Harper.
What I Am Capturing: Spring is a colorful time in the desert. There are a cacophony of hues, yellows, purples, pinks and blues. My gaze focuses on flowers or the sky. I love walking through my neighborhood, witnessing the unfolding of this current season. Last week, I intersected with a clear blue sky and a bouquet of pink – I couldn’t resist taking this snapshot – I love the crisp contrast in colors.
What I Am Loving: I am loving my local Indie bookstore, Changing Hands. Yesterday I had the absolute honor of listening to Helen Macdonald of H Is for Hawk fame. Charming and informative, the evening proved delightful. I don’t want to give away too much here – A more expansive post about Macdonald, her work and the insights she offered will be something I write about soon. The other thrum that seems to be weaving its way through my life is connecting with old friends. I love how these friendships are threaded with history and require little effort to feel shared camaraderie again.
What is happening in your world currently?
I love hearing about what you’re up to, Rudri. I’ve been meaning to comment on the last couple of your posts, but I can’t keep up lately! Please know that I’m reading your words and letting them soak in. My pile of books is rather daunting right now. I’m actually overwhelmed by how much I want to read and how little time I have… hmm, sensing a theme here. Anyway, I am in the midst of H is for Hawk so I’m a little envious about your book reading! I imagine it was illuminating. She is a powerful writer.
I can’t wait to discuss H is for Hawk with you. Helen Macdonald is such a delight. So insightful, yet down-to-earth. I completely understand feeling overwhelmed by the pile of books – you are not alone!
I’ll play along! Reading. I’m reading a Sophie Kinsella young adult novel – Finding Audrey. It intrigues me. And it’s like a month overdue at the library.. but that’s a whole other story!
I loved the Shopaholic series. Such a nice escape. At one point, my mom and I were reading this series at the same time. I’ll have to check out her latest.
I love seeing what you’re up to! Your book pile is always my go-to list for new things to read 🙂
Thanks, Windy. Hope you enjoy my recommendations.
I’ve been seeing The Wander Society everywhere—I’m so intrigued. Thank you for letting us glimpse into your “right now” and what you’re enjoying.
I love the concepts and prompts Keri Smith includes in The Wander Society. I am certain you will love it too.
Like Dana, I’m finding myself reading a lot with less time to comment… but I just love your images – here and on Instagram. The flowers above look like they should be a painting!
Love this! I always enjoy your book pile recommendations . I watched House of cards and Scandal as well. Have you seen “Everything is a copy” a documentary about Nora Ephron ? If you have not, you should because I think you will enjoy it.
