There are several books sitting on my shelves, begging for my attention. This year, I’ve vowed to be more consistent with my reading and I am happy to report I’ve succeeded (thus far) in my commitment. Here is what is on my bookshelf:
Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy by Sheryl Sandberg and Adam Grant
Unplug by Suze Yalof Schwartz
Memoirs of Hadrian by Marguerite Yourcenar (This was a recommendation from the Anthony Doerr talk I attended)
Hourglass:Time, Memory and Marriage by Dani Shapiro
One Day We Will All Be Dead and None of this Will Matter by Scaachi Koul
What are you reading right now?
Would you say that you read more nonfiction (that isn’t memoir, but more essay style) than other genres, Rudri? If so, what is your second genre? Memoir? Novels? I keep wondering what my reading genres are in order!
I tend to gravitate toward memoir and nonfiction, but I have periods where I will read only fiction. I don’t know if I have an order – it just depends on what appeals to me most in a given season.
Hourglass is SO GOOD I look forward to your thoughts. Option B is on my list too! xox
I loved Hourglass. Such an intimate look at time, love and marriage.
Just finished Hillbilly Elegy by JD Vance and starting Anything is Possible by Elizabeth Strout. Favorite this year so far is Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders. I’m going to add some of yours to my list to read. Thanks.
Lincoln in the Bardo is also on my shelf too. I am trying to find the right moment to start reading it. Thanks for your recommendations, Molly.
I just finished the Oliver Sachs memoir and I Am Lucy Barton by Elizabeth Strout. I downloaded Quiet but I’m more in a fiction mood right now.
I loved Quiet because I learned so much from Cain’s wisdom. Insomniac City is also on my TBR pile. Thanks for sharing your suggestions, Harper.
Just finished and absolutely loved Hourglass. So good. Now reading Magical Journey: An Apprenticeship in Contentment by Katrina Kenison and Double Bind: Women on Ambition (essays edited by Robin Romm).
Thanks for passing along your book recommendation, Andrea. I look forward to checking it out.
I don’t even remember the title of what I’m reading! So pathetic. Obviously I need to upgrade to one of these.
Loved Option B! Hourglass is next
Hourglass is divine. I am certain you will love it.
Good list! My nightstand is as usual way out of control!
I can’t wait for your midyear review. I always enjoy your book recommendations.
