I do this meme from time to time and I thought it might be fun to revisit it again. This is what is happening in my world, right now:
What I Am Listening To: Right now, I am listening to podcasts. I thoroughly enjoyed Krista Tippett’s question and answer session with Mary Karr and Gordon Hempton. Every creative should listen to the conversation between Tim Ferriss and Cheryl Strayed.
What I Am Watching: I am watching Homeland and loving the unexpected twists and turns of the episodes this season. I cannot wait until the finale this Sunday. I also follow Scandal and enjoy how Shonda Rhimes is able to make a series seem new again even after several years on television. And of course, I’ve followed the March Madness games this past weekend and on Monday.
What I Am Reading: I am reading Ann Patchett’s Commonwealth, Anne Lamott’s Hallelujah Anyway: Rediscovering Mercy, and Vanessa Hua’s Deceit and Other Possibilities.
What I Am Capturing: I am still looking at the sky. It captivates and enchants. This week I captured the sky, trees and the backdrop of the orange-yellow sky. On Instagram, I said the following about this photograph: “Sunset. Thinking about the movement of time and sinking into the present. I always struggle to remain mindful of this dichotomy.” I am learning, every single day, to be aware of the fragility of the present moment and the gratitude of breathing in all the details of my life.
What I Am Loving: Evenings at home. Having conversations with my daughter. National Poetry Month. This week I had the good fortune to hear Anthony Doerr speak about his writing process and his novel, All the Light We Cannot See. I will post more on this conversation next week.
What’s currently going on in your world?
I have a funny thing with Anne Lamott. Sometimes I love her and sometimes it just doesn’t work for me. I love to try, though!
We are doing a lot of cold rain here, so I like dreaming about sunsets!
Agree on your point about Anne Lamott. I loved Bird by Bird, Plan B and some of her earlier work, but in the last few years her books have not resonated with me completely.
I second what Tamara says about AL…I’m hot and cold on her, so please report back (especially after reading one review about this book which was not exactly a ringing endorsement)! I will also be curious as to your take on Commonwealth. I’ve mentioned to a few now (and lightning still hasn’t struck me, luckily) that I was lukewarm on this one. See? This is why we need to live closer together for a book club. 😉 Eager to hear more about that Doerr talk!!!
Kristen,
I agree with you on Commonwealth. My book club discussed it and we had several concerns/issues about the narrative and the characters. It wasn’t as satisfying as I hoped.
Aww, yes, I’d love to be in a book club with you!
I cannot wait for Anne Lamott’s newest. Not sure what I’m waiting for!
Have you read it yet, Nina? Curious about your thoughts.
I enjoy the podcasts as well 🙂 Homeland this season is as amazing as season one and two were- we are enjoying it. I will be sad when it’s over. Thanks for sharing. Xo
Yes, I enjoyed Homeland this past season and cannot wait to see what is in store for next year.
