I am a voracious reader and every week I come across either a book, online piece or website I want to share with others. I’ve decided to curate these gems and highlight them on Friday. I hope you find these faves as insightful as I do.
- What do you like to read? Your choices may matter. Susan Reynolds explains her perspective in What you read matters more than you might think
- Are people not responding to your emails? Read “Six Ways To Write Emails That Don’t Make People Silently Resent You,” on Fast Company.
- “When real life, and its inherent risks and tragedies, offers so much material already, I find it challenging to seek out the same in books.” Do you avoid reading certain kind of books because you might find the subject too intense to ponder? Kristen Ploetz shares her thoughts in Avoiding Books, Even Fiction, About Tragedies I Fear
- How do you feel about the color gray? Kyle Chayka provides insights in The Grays of Our Lives – On clothes, color, and anxiety
What were some of your favorite reads this week?
I never thought of the idea that we may have a negative view of email before it even arrives in the inbox. Do I? I really have to think about that.
I never really like the color gray but I have a soft gray shirt that I am wearing today.
I’m trying to imagine emails that make people silently resent me! Anxiety!
Before this piece, I too hadn’t given much thought to the color gray. The essay offers valid points to ponder.
Rudri, I just skimmed these articles and am going to look into them further during my hair appointment ;). They all look great. The email one about terseness is so true. Sometimes I feel wounded by a terse email when that was probably not the intention at all.
Congratulations on your new position as Blog Editor for Literary Mama!
Yes, I think too much emphasis is directed to an email, when the words aren’t meant to hurt or malign, but to convey a point. Do I think it is the most compassionate way to communicate? No, but I think we’ve all become a product of this busy-hurried-technology driven lifestyle.
Thanks for the kudos, Luanne. I am excited about LM.
Wow, Rudri, I am so completely touched that you included my essay among this list. Thank you so much…and I need to go read these other three post haste because the short intros alone lead me to think each one offers much perspective on things already so relevant and intriguing to me! (*YIKES now worrying that I’ve sent resentful emails to people!*)
It was my pleasure to highlight your piece, Kristen. It offered a perspective I hadn’t considered before. Thank you for writing the essay.
I always love your Friday Faves. I have been reading too much light fiction lately, I’m pretty sure – time to return to something a bit slower to fire up my brain! xox
Thanks, Lindsey. I can’t wait to hear your latest book recommendations!
