I am a voracious reader and every week I come across either a book, online piece or website I want to share with others. I’ve decided to curate these gems and highlight them on Friday. I hope you find these faves as insightful as I do.
- We talk about physical clutter often, but how many conversations are dedicated to digital clutter? Look at your phone right now. Are you holding on to texts? Are your unread emails numbering in the thousands? You may need to read this piece in Quartz: Do you find it impossible to delete old photos and texts? You may be a digital hoarder.
- Looking for a less busy life? Vox’s “I trained myself to be less busy — and it dramatically improved my life” offers some perspective.
- I am a fan of Roxane Gay’s work. I adored her answers in the New York Times column: By the Book.
- Lit Hub’s “The Unbearable Niceness of Being” explores publishing and the gender niceness problem.
What were your favorite reads this week?
The digital hoarding is real. I am pretty much as anal about throwing out digital stuff as I am about non-digital stuff. I can’t stand extra things! When I see someone who has tons of texts or emails just sitting there I get anxious. I’m like, erase those!
Last year I went on a digital decluttering kick. I had too many unopened emails and it made me feel nervous. My next project involves organizing/decluttering all of the pictures stored on my phone and computer. Any tips?
I feel like I’m in the process of training myself to be less busy. It certainly has benefits..
Digital hoarding is LEGIT.
Be patient with yourself. I wholeheartedly agree that it is a process and it takes time to learn to say no to busy. Good luck. xo
I am guilty of being a digital hoarder 🙂 something I have to work on. I enjoyed the article.
I don’t think you’re alone, Ayala. I have to work on it too. xo
