I am a voracious reader and every week I come across either a book, online piece or website I want to share with others. I’ve decided to curate these gems and highlight them on Friday. I hope you find these faves as insightful as I do.
- Overwhelmed by all of the end-of-the-year book lists? Kottke.org lists the best books of 2016 from several different sources in one place. See if your favorite book made the list.
- Do you know a passive-aggressive person? “Tight-lipped, frosty and fake, the passive-aggressive person never quite takes the blame. Is this always a bad thing?” – Rebecca Roache explores the passive-aggressive person in “Honestly, It’s Fine.“
- Let’s talk about The Other “F” word. Interesting podcast I discovered via The Happiness Project.
- “We die. That may be the meaning of life. But we do language. That may be the measure of our lives.” Brain Pickings presents “Toni Morrison on the Power of Language: Her Spectacular Nobel Acceptance Speech After Becoming the First African American Woman Awarded the Accolade.”
What were your favorite reads this week?
Just read the Aeon piece. I see her point that passive aggressive behavior may have the same end as aggressive. But I still vote for aggressive, I guess. At least it doesn’t leave the other person having to interpret and wonder, etc.
Though on a more careful reading (again, just now!) she comes to the same conclusion. 🙂
She doesn’t get to this conclusion until the very end and in the middle of the piece, I thought – “Is she advocating for passive-aggressiveness?” I am glad she decided to move toward preferring candor over passiveness.
I love the other F word!
I’m with Nina – about the passive aggressive vs. aggressive. I found it fascinating!
I thought it was an insightful read too. Lots to think about.
