I am a voracious reader and every week I come across either a book, online piece or website I want to share with others. I’ve decided to curate these gems and highlight them on Friday. I hope you find these faves as insightful as I do.
- What are the 100 most influential influential images of all time? Find them here.
- How do you make gratitude a daily ritual? Ron Lieber tells us how in “How to Start a Year-Round Family Gratitude Ritual” in the New York Times.
- “But increasingly, in most of the world, from the moment we wake, we live our day by the clock.” Should we rethink how we structure our time? Leon Kreitzman makes compelling arguments in Aeon’s How the 24-hour society is stealing time from the night.
- “Gratitude is a feat of perspective. When I talked with other people recently about their ways and whys of giving thanks, I was most struck by how often their rituals arose from travails, not triumphs.” I also believe you learn more about gratitude when times are turbulent. “One Holiday, and Countless Way to Say Thanks” by Frank Bruni resonated with me.
What were some of your favorite reads this week?
At different times in my life, I’ve kept a gratitude journal, and I find it helps to look for those moments in my day to be thankful. It gives me a positive outlook. Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving!
I think a daily practice of gratitude is key in trying to remain mindful of what is good in one’s life. Thanks, Jackie, for your thoughts. Hope your Thanksgiving was lovely.
A few times a year I make a checklist for things I want to get done each week. I do it when I’m feeling off track. I just made a new one (well, Bryan helped me) and we needed “Remember what you’re grateful for” three times a week. It helps!
Great idea, Nina. I find when I write my to-do list (not on a digital device) I am more apt to complete my tasks.
Wonderful stuff! I love the grateful piece.
And obviously I’m excited about the influential images!
As a photographer, I am certain you will quickly identify why the images are important and striking. Hope you enjoy browsing, Tamara.
The 24 hour society…. an interesting read. I am happy I am on a Jet Blue flight and I can catch up on your posts. 🙂
Thanks, Ayala! I hope you enjoy the links. Safe travels!
