I am a voracious reader and every week I come across either a book, online piece or website I want to share with others. I’ve decided to curate these gems and highlight them on Friday. I hope you find these faves as insightful as I do.
- If you are interested in prayer and practice, Austin Kleon presents Mary Karr’s list of recommended books on these subjects.
- My husband recently pointed me to the podcasts of Sam Harris. He is a neuroscientist and philosopher. His podcasts will make you think and rethink your viewpoints.
- What’s the best career advice if you’ve received? Loved the advice presented in Cup of Jo.
- I wrote a piece on nighttime routines. In case you missed it, I cited an article from Inc. on 9 Nighttime Routines of the Mega-Successful.
What were your favorite finds this week?
Krista Tippett chats with Mary Karr on a recent On Being podcast. Their wide ranging conversation touches on God, writing, authenticity, sobriety, family, This Thig We Call Life. HIghly recommend.
Thanks for the recommendation, Pam. I love Krista Tippett and will put this on my to-listen list. Have a good weekend.
Sam Harris…I have a love/hate relationship with him. MOSTLY it’s love…but (I suppose like everyone) he says things that can be entirely irksome. But that said, I will check out his podcast because I didn’t realize he had one. Have you read his book WAKING UP? I read it maybe a year or so ago. Mixed thoughts about it (translation: that might be more of a borrow rather than buy book), but he gets you thinking, no doubt about that. Have a lovely weekend!
Kristen,
Thanks for adding your insight. I listened to “A Lesser Evil” and enjoyed his conversation with Andrew Sullivan regarding ethics, morality and how that applies to Clinton and Trump. I found the discussion fascinating.
Hubby started to read the book last year, but didn’t finish. I will likely check it out, but will request it from the library. I understand why Harris could be polarizing.
Have a great weekend!
Hmm.. the best career advice I ever got? Was that there are alternatives to working for “the man” and being a boss. You can work alone and sort of float!
