I am a voracious reader and every week I come across either a book, online piece or website I want to share with others. I’ve decided to curate these gems and highlight them on Friday. I hope you find these faves as insightful as I do.
I am a huge fan of writing letters. I wrote letters to people who meant something me when I turned 40. I love the idea of “Writing a ‘Last Letter’ When You’re Healthy” in the New York Times.
Do you like essay collections? Tobias Carroll presents the “12 of the Best Essay Collections for Your Fall Reading.”
“How Awkward Are You, Really? Here’s a Quiz That Tells You” is a fun little exercise from Science of Us.
I cannot wait until next week when I pick up Ann Patchett’s latest, Commonwealth. Here is her interview in the Guardian, “Ann Patchett: ‘If writers are to survive we must take responsibility for ourselves and our industry.”
What were your favorite reads this week?
I really need to see how awkward I am! I think I always think it’s worse than it really is. And I love the “last letter” piece.
I thought it was a neat quiz. I wonder if “awkward” is also a way of quantifying introversion. The last letter piece is a great reminder to act now, instead of later.
