I am a voracious reader and every week I come across either a book, online piece or website I want to share with others. I’ve decided to curate these gems and highlight them on Friday. I hope you find these faves as insightful as I do.
- If you’re having trouble completing a big project or procrastinating on an important task, consider this advice by Mike Birbiglia – “6 Tips for Making It Small in Hollywood. Or Anywhere.” Key point – “Failure is essential. There’s no substitute for it. It’s not just encouraged but required.”
- Good news for bookstores – “print books remain much more popular than books in digital formats.” The Pew Research Center offers its latest on America’s book reading habits.
- Melissa Gould’s piece in the LA Times offers a new take on love – “Can one person have two soul mates? I hope so.”
- “Writing is saying to no one and to everyone the things it is not possible to say to someone.” I adore Rebecca Solnit’s work and loved this piece, “Why Is Rebecca Solnit Hopeful?” in Lion’s Roar. h/t my friend, Kristen Ploetz.
What were your favorite reads this week?
I’m a newly minted Mike Birbiglia fan. A few weeks ago I saw his move Don’t Think Twice. (Terrible title, but terrific film). I’m off to check out that piece.
I also love Rebecca Solnit’s writing. Her work never fails to move me.
Have a lovely weekend, Rudri.
Thanks for recommending the film, Jackie. I will have to check it out. His advice is so spot-on.
I’m so happy about bookstores. I’m still all about paper books and I can’t imagine changing that ever.
I love Mike Birbiglia’s piece.
Have a wonderful look weekend!
I am a connoisseur of paper books too. I hope our collective love of holding books will help solidify all bookstore’s futures.
Oh! Some things I missed this week! Thank you as always for cultivating these little lists each week.
Thanks, Kristen. Glad you enjoy my lists.
Good stuff!
Thanks, Nina!
