I am a voracious reader and every week I come across either a book, online piece or website I want to share with others. I’ve decided to curate these gems and highlight them on Friday. I hope you find these faves as insightful as I do.
- My husband is a huge fan of podcasts. I am developing a love for them too. Here is Brain Picking’s Nine Podcasts for a Fuller Life. It’s a great place to decide which podcast series will become your fave.
- I discovered this Rolling Stones interview with Prince (I am still in denial). It’s well worth the read.
- A Writer’s Solitude vs. AWP: On What We Share With Others by the recent Pulitzer Prize winner, Viet Thanh Nguyen, discusses the writer’s yearning for solitude and the need for an audience. h/t Dani Shapiro
- I’ve taken several of Jena Schwartz’s online classes and love how her prompts encourage free writing and creativity. For the first time since high school, I wrote my first poem via her class, Dive Into Poetry. This past week I was thrilled to write for her Roar Sessions Series. If you are looking for a way to further your writing and creative practice, Jena will help you find the way.
What were your favorite reads this week?
I don’t know how I got so lucky.

What a lovely, lovely thing to say. As I said, the honor is all mine. Thank you, Jena.
I’m headed straight to the Prince one.. can’t help it. I can’t seem to read enough about him. What a guy.
The world certainly lost a gem.
Thank you for posting the link to the Rolling Stones piece. I was so sad to hear about Prince’s death. He talked a lot about negative criticism and what a toll that can take on a person. Amazing to think how much more oppressive it is now with social media.
Have a great weekend, Rudri!
Social media makes negativity a more prolific part of life. I’ve heard he suffered from horrible stage fright – it makes me so sad to think his art was good for the public, but not necessarily a healthy endeavor for him. Oh, the complexities.
I love podcasts too — I think you would really like On Being. I also enjoy the Happier podcast with Gretchen Rubin and her sister, and the Sorta Awesome podcast for something fun and light.
Thanks for the recommendations, Sarah. Will definitely check out Sorta Awesome.
A lot of good stuff here. Xox
Thanks, Ayala.
