I am a voracious reader and every week I come across either a book, online piece or website I want to share with others. I’ve decided to curate these gems and highlight them on Friday. I hope you find these faves as insightful as I do.
- I loved this experiment in New York. The following question was posed, “We Asked People To Tell Us Their Biggest Regrets – But What They All Had In Common Was Heartbreaking.” I encourage you to watch the 3 minute video. It might make you think about what you want to do in your life right now.
- How does an Olympian and orthopedic surgeon end up filing bankruptcy and living in a trailer? I watched Debi Thomas as a young girl and admired her moxie. Washington Post chronicles her triumph and sadness in the piece, “The best African American figure skater in history is now bankrupt and living in a trailer.”
- Who doesn’t love a great debate? I was thrilled to have my essay included in Brain,Child last month. Where do you come down on the issue, “Do you invite the whole class to you kids’ birthday parties?” Read both perspectives and arrive at your own decision.
- “Every story I have ever told has a kind of breach to it, I think. You could say that my writing isn’t quite right. That all the beginnings have endings in them.” Exquisite storytelling by Lydia Yuknavitch in Guernica. Spend some time with her essay, Woven, today.
What were some of your favorite reads this week?
I will look these up. I love the links that you normally share. Thank you! Xo
Glad you enjoy them, Ayala. Thanks for letting me know.
I loved that NYC regrets experiment. I think I even emailed a friend about it — really compelling and insightful, no? Off to check out the other juicy looking links. Thanks for compiling them, Rudri! Have a wonderful weekend.
Kristen,
The NYC regrets experiment is powerful. It impacted me in a way I didn’t expect and is the kind of wake up call I needed. Have a good weekend. (my email to you is coming soon, I promise:))
Thanks for sharing. I did not know what had become of Debi.
I’ve been meaning to get to the bday party posts at BC!
I was moved by that video! Clean slate. Yes.
Now to read about invitations for parties. Scarlet has a summer birthday so we mostly skate around it all.
Rudri, I really enjoy your Friday links! That video is SO worth watching. It made me tear up, all the emotion in the people’s faces, and on that board. I immediately put my phone down and went to hug my daughter. We had a rough morning, so much bickering and hurt feelings lately, and it was nice to reconnect with a cozy hug and then some coloring. I don’t want to regret not acting loving enough.
I had no idea about Debi and will read that and the Lidia Yuknavitch essay soon. Thank you for the great finds.
