The yellow chair is a reminder.
The state of your life maybe imperfect or on some days may not feel like enough. But isn’t that how it is for all of us? Holidays should not be the only day we set aside to celebrate, spend time with friends or sigh at the wonder of fireworks.
The yellow chair is always there. That single bright spot.
It can be whatever gives you that flicker of joy.
A hug in the middle of the day from your child. A random phone call from a friend. A smile from a stranger. A moment of abundant laughter. A restful night of sleep. A drink of your favorite beverage. A deep breath.
Take time to enjoy.
Find the yellow chair.

Welcome! I am a lawyer turned freelance writer, essayist, and editor. On staff at Literary Mama and the co-founder and co-editor of the literary journal, The Sunlight Press, my essays and reported work have appeared in The Washington Post, The Lily, Saveur, Civil Eats, Brain, Child, ESPN and elsewhere. I am currently at work on a memoir on grief and culture and how it provides perspective on life’s ordinary graces. I invite you to appreciate the ordinary with me. I hope my daily practice of seeing the magic in the mundane helps you celebrate and find more of these moments in your life too.
Love it!
Today that yellow chair was in the form of a blog comment. It can be unexpected and always at just the right time.
I also would really like that setup in my yard!
Yes, I agree. I’d love that setup in my backyard. I took this pic at a local resort hotel. The yellow just popped and made me smile.
Love this! Sometimes that yellow chair arrives in least expected moments.
Yes. Unexpected good surprises are the best.
Love this! xo
Wonderful photo and reminder! I had a very difficult day today, but I was able to find my yellow chair ;-)
Glad you found your yellow chair. All of us struggle to find it sometimes. I wrote this post because I needed the reminder as well.
