“Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won’t either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could.” Louise Erdrich

Wow – I love this quote. Thanks for sharing.
Cathy,
Glad the quote resonates with you, Cathy. Her words definitely carry power. Hope you are well.
Clicked on over from SITS and I love this passage! Louise Erdrich really has a way with words 🙂
Christy,
Her words do help illuminate struggle and offer light. She wrote Blue Jay’s Dance which is an incredible memoir on life and parenthood. I definitely recommend it.
True 🙂
That is such a beautiful quote!
Thanks, Meg. Glad that it spoke to you.
Lovely quote! I’m not familiar with this author but it sounds like I need to check her out!
Sarah,
She has several books that are quite insightful. Her fiction book, The Roundhouse, focuses on Native American culture. Also, she has written a touching book on motherhood called The Blue Jay’s Dance that I absolutely adore.
This is a very beautiful quote and very true. People try to keep to themselves thinking that’s how they can protect themselves from pain but they’re doing more damage to themselves that way. I am on your SITS tribe Rudri! Looking forward to connecting with you more this week 🙂 Have a great one! -Iva
Ooh….this is a good one. Adding it to the collection!
